About Madison Elie-Thompson, LCPC, NCC
Trauma Therapist in Maryland
Welcome, I’m Glad You’re Here
Hi, I’m Madison Elie-Thompson, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and the founder of Madison Elie Counseling, LLC. I offer individual online therapy for adults across Maryland who are ready to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and begin the work of healing.
I specialize in helping adults recover from PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, burnout, and emotional exhaustion. Many of my clients are used to being the strong one. They’re first responders, veterans, healthcare workers, caregivers, or professionals in high-pressure careers. If you’re the person others rely on, but inside you feel overwhelmed or disconnected, therapy can be a space where you finally feel seen and supported.
I know how hard it can be to prioritize your own well-being when you’re used to showing up for everyone else. You deserve a space that’s just for you.
My Approach to Therapy
My therapy style is collaborative and focused on what works. I bring warmth, compassion, and a sense of humor into every session. You’ll often see me using facial expressions, empathy, and genuine engagement to help you feel safe and seen. I’m not a blank-slate therapist. I show up as a real person, offering a space where you can explore, grow, and even laugh as we do meaningful work together.
I take a solution-focused and skills-based approach, which means we do more than talk about problems. We actively build coping tools, explore new strategies, and work toward goals that matter to you. Therapy is a space where you can feel supported, understood, and empowered to take positive steps forward.
I use a variety of evidence-based and trauma-informed therapies, personalized to your unique needs and experiences.
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and other distressing experiences. EMDR uses guided eye movements and other forms of bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess painful memories so they no longer feel overwhelming. This approach can lead to meaningful and lasting relief from emotional pain without needing to talk in detail about the trauma.
-
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a brief, evidence-based therapy that helps reduce symptoms of trauma, anxiety, grief, and other emotional challenges. ART uses eye movements and visualization techniques to help you reprocess distressing memories quickly and with less emotional pain. Most people experience noticeable relief in just a few sessions, without needing to talk in detail about the trauma.
-
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a structured, evidence-based treatment for PTSD and trauma. It helps you identify and change unhelpful thoughts related to traumatic experiences, allowing you to gain a new understanding of what happened and reduce emotional distress. CPT is especially effective for those struggling with guilt, shame, or self-blame after trauma.
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely used approach that focuses on how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. By learning to identify and change negative thinking patterns, CBT helps you manage anxiety, depression, stress, and other emotional challenges in a practical, goal-oriented way.
-
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a skills-based therapy that helps people manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and cope with stress in healthier ways. DBT combines mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. It’s especially helpful for individuals dealing with trauma, mood disorders, or high emotional sensitivity.

Outside of Therapy
When I’m away from my desk, you’ll usually find me outside. I like to say I’m solar powered — long walks, gardening, and playing fetch with my dog are some of my favorite ways to recharge.
I also find joy in the kitchen, especially when I’m cooking or baking something to share with my family. Whether I’m experimenting with a new recipe or getting my hands in the soil, these quiet, grounding moments help me reconnect with myself and the things that matter most.
Ready to Start?
The first step is to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. This is a chance for us to get to know each other a little. I will ask a few questions about what is bringing you to therapy, and you will have time to ask anything you would like about how I work.
If it feels like a good match, we can schedule your first session. You will receive access to your secure, HIPAA-compliant client portal, where you can complete paperwork and share anything you would like me to know before we begin.
You’ve spent so much time showing up for others. Let this be the moment you show up for yourself.
